Cottoned on to Coloured Organics Yet?

We've lost count of the number of times we've heard babywear customers say things like, "I like the organic cotton but do you have anything more colourful?"

Now, for the first time, we can answer in the affirmative.

Our new range of hand-knitted organic cotton tops and hats for toddlers makes full use of 21 amazing colours, taking in everything from stunning reds to strawberry and mango, pottery shades, greys, pinks and a baby blue.

The yarns, which were made exclusively for ChunkiChilli Knitwear (and are so soft they feel almost like silk), are colour-fast, machine washable and certified organic under the GOTS standard.

The designs too are just what the toddler ordered - clean, simple, bold, energetic and a great deal of fun.

We are offering this exclusive organic cotton range to selected retailers only from Spring 2009.

If you would like to find out more about the range, please email us here, giving your postal address and telling us a bit about your retail outlet.

Hats Buck the Recession for Heady Days in 2008/9

It came as a surprise to us when demand for wool accessories held up so strongly in A/W 2008/9 even as the economy went into free-fall.

What caused this? Was it the higher heating bills or the high street's headlong rush downmarket, or maybe just that the impulse to wrap up warm is stronger in a recession? We're still not entirely sure, but we do know that 2008-9 was our strongest year to date.

Cautiously optimistic for the new year, we're now finalising a new range of hand-knitted merino hats for Autumn/Winter 2009/10.

This year's hats will be better than ever, with suave new designs and an exciting new set of colours - earth tones, coffee, oatmeal marl, fuchsia - to bring the range bang up to date.

If you would like to receive a mailing about this year's range of hats, let us know by email here.

Ripping Yarns for the New Year

We juat have taken delivery of some fabulous new yarns that we are making available to designers this year.

In merino wool, we've added nine new colours, which increases our total merino range to 40 colours. The new yarns include some earth tones, a coffee, oatmeal marl, warm grey and a fuchsia.

In organic cotton, we now have 21 bespoke colours in an exceptionally high quality yarn (the quality surprised even us). As far as we know, we are the only company offering these yarns in a hand-knit gauge and making them available to customers intending to design and market their own range.

We impose no minimums, so if you are a designer, you can use as much or as little of this yarn as you like, and simply pay for what you use.

Designer Knitwear Sampling, Production, OEM and Wholesale

If you're a fashion buyer or a commercial knitwear designer, you've almost certainly experienced that terrible sinking feeling.

You know the one. It's that leaden feeling in the stomach that hits you the moment you realise that the supplier you were depending on for that crucial something-or-other has let you down.

If you haven't experienced it, you must be one of the lucky ones. It's in the nature of the modern clothing industry that buyers and designers are frequently dealing with producers in the developing world, where language problems, distance, misunderstandings and different business cultures create huge opportunities for things to go wrong.

But that's where we come in. Chunkichilli Knitwear Ltd is a British designer knitwear company operating in China, so we can deliver all the benefits of producing in the developing world, and combine this with the ease of communication and quality of service you would usually expect from a British company.

The benefits of producing in China are many. It's one of the world's leading yarn producers, and there can be few countries that can match it for variety. Yarns in cashmere, silk, organic cotton, merino, bamboo, milk fibre - are all readily available in a huge variety of gauges.

We specialise in hand-knitting, and we've assembled a team of exceptionally skilled knitters (and we're not just saying that) who are already producing consistently for some leading British designers and brands.

So if you're looking for a high-end designer knitwear producer who'll deal with you straight and give you top-quality service at a fair price, you've come to the right place.

Whether for sampling or large-scale production, contact us today by calling us in the UK on 0845 092 2641, or emailing us here.

Things You Should Know

Chunkichilli Knitwear is a British knitwear company, based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

Designer knitwear, jumpers, cardigans, skiwear, babywear, accessories, we produce them all for several leading companies and designer brands.

We make things of exceptional quality and beauty.

We started life as a very small company that set out to provide incomes, via knitting, in some of the poorest parts of the developing world.

We remain faithful to these roots, and we're still providing employment in remote parts of the developing world, but many of our knitters are friends and family.

We'd love to have you as our customer.

We produce other companies' designs for them, and we often let other companies use our designs and put their labels on them.

If you're a designer and you have something that you'd like to produce in knitting, we'd be more than happy to help you.

You can contact us by email, or phone us in the UK on 0845 092 2641.
